COUGHLIN - Rita A. (nee Bulger) October 6, 1936 - February 10, 2026 Rita A. (Bulger) Coughlin, 89, died peacefully on February 10, 2026 at Hospice Buffalo. Born in Binghamton, NY, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Mary Bulger.She moved to Buffalo in 2009 and was the adored "Groussie" and adventurous companion to Gabriel and Julia Burger. She was an active member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians in both Binghamton and Buffalo, and marched in many St. Patrick's Day parades - always in full Rita-Regalia. Her family and her Catholic faith were her foundations. She was a warm and bright light to all who knew her, and for more than three decades, she served the Binghamton community in the operating room at UHS/BGH. Mom lived until she died.Rita is survived by her five children and their spouses, Eileen and David Williams, Terrence Coughlin, Mary Coughlin, Kelly Coughlin and Eric Burger, and Kathleen Coughlin, and her two grandchildren, Gabriel and Julia Burger. She is also survived by her sister, Constance Legos, sisters-in-law, Bonnie Coughlin and Dolores Coughlin, beloved nieces and nephews, and her dog, Mercy.She was predeceased by Gerald Coughlin and Daniel Coughlin, and her siblings, Leo and John Bulger, Mary Hill and Margaret Campion.The family gives heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Aurora Adult Day Services for their contributions to our mother's quality of life over the last two years, the staff at Hospice Buffalo for their compassionate end-of-life care, and to the team at Quaker Medical Associates for their care and support over the years.Contributions in memory of Rita may be made to Aurora Adult Day Services (Donate - Aurora Adult Day Services) and Hospice Buffalo (Give now! - Donate to Hospice & Palliative Care Buffalo) Arrangements by: CASTIGLIA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 873 Abbott Rd., South Buffalo, NY, (716) 824-6435.
