HARKER - Marion M. (nee Meisner)
Marion M. Harker, 89, peacefully passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at Fox Run Health Center in Orchard Park, NY. She was born in Chicago, IL on July 2, 1931 to Walter and Luella (Daib) Meisner. She grew up with her two siblings, Marijean and Wallie in the two Chicago neighborhoods of Edgebrook and Norwood Park. She graduated from Taft High School and went on to the University of Arizona as a Kappa Alpha Theta, completing a BS in Home Economics. She then earned her MA in Education from the National College of Education in Evanston, IL.
While raising her three boys in Park Ridge, IL, she worked as a teacher at Messiah Lutheran Nursery School. She then moved to Riverwoods, IL and served as Director of the Northbrook Community Nursery School. She and her beloved husband, John Harker, then retired to the Buffalo NY area, where she served as a Sunday School teacher at the Wesleyan Church of Hamburg, volunteer chairwoman of the church's Play School, and later a leader of the Grief Share Ministry. She was also busy caring for her grandchildren, gardening, and being a docent for architectural treasures of downtown Buffalo. She loved traveling, reading, and chronicling all her adventures in expansive scrapbooks. She had many close friends all over the country. She often wrote letters or picked up the phone to catch up. Treasured summers were spent going with John to "the island" on Willard Lake, Ontario.
Loving sister of Marijean (the late Richard) Flom and Walter (Gayle) Meisner. Caring mother of Jim (Polly), Bill, and Jeff (Janna) McCauley. Devoted grandmother of Matthew (Marissa) McCauley, Kelsey (Benjamin) Garlock, Topher McCauley, Will (Meredith) McCauley, Marie and John McCauley. Very proud great-grandmother of seven. Dear aunt, cousin, and friend to many.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Luella Meisner, Bruce McCauley, John Harker, and grandson, Danny McCauley.
Marion's life-long faith journey has been joyfully received as she is restored in the amazing glory of her Savior Jesus Christ. A memorial service in honor of Marion will be held for family and friends at a later date to be determined.
