Lorena "Lori" J. Nowak (Shalik)

Buffalo born, age 62, departed this life on December 21, 2023. Daughter of the late Mildred Stelter (McNamara) and Henry Shalik; caring and loving mother to Nicole (Douglas), Darik and Alexander; cherished and adored grandmother to Xander, Lillian, Olivia and Zayne; trusted companion to her dog, Archer; survived by a brother, a sister, and three step-siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Fully dedicated to her family, she made her home in Hamburg where she raised her kids along the lake, established new friendships and started her career in the healthcare industry.

Lorena was a unique, creative and kindhearted individual who touched the lives of all who met her. She maintained many friendships from her youth through adulthood. She loved all things related to nature and gardening, making and eating food, art and cultural festivals and photography. Nothing brought Lorena more joy than spending a day caring for her houseplants, chatting with her grandkids, trying a new recipe or planning her next trip with a good cup of coffee or green tea. She loved to celebrate the big and little things. Lorena devoted her life to caring for others. She was an exceptional human. She would go above and beyond for those she just met or those she knew for years. If she loved you, you knew it.

Despite her challenges in life, she aimed to rise above with positivity, humor and a smile on her face. Her way of looking at the world, her nurturing sensibility and her intention to 'be kind' will continue to influence those who were fortunate to know her. There was nobody else like her, and she will be deeply missed.

Per Lorena's request, a private burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. A private family gathering to celebrate her life will take place at a later date.
