KOLODZIEJ - Eleonore E. Of Buffalo, NY, August 27, 2020. Daughter of the late Michael V. and Anastasia B. (Kopczynski) Kolodziej; sister of the late Dorothy Kolodziej. No prior visitation. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at 10 AM, at Corpus Christi Church, 199 Clark St., Buffalo, NY. Burial immediately following at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Cheektowaga, NY, in the family gravesite. Ms. Kolodziej was a retired Teacher at West Seneca West Senior High School. Obituary: KOLODZIEJ - Eleonore E. April 2, 1933 - August 27, 2020, age 87. Eleonore was a retired English and French teacher from West Seneca West Senior High School. Born in Buffalo, NY, Eleonore was the first woman in her family to obtain a college degree, graduating in 1953 from D'Youville College with a Bachelor of Arts in French. She began teaching at Sloan High School, now John F. Kennedy (JFK) High School, in Cheektowaga, NY. In 1955, she was awarded a summer scholarship to McGill University in Montreal, Canada, to study French, and in 1956 awarded a summer scholarship to Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT, to study Spanish. Eleonore obtained her Masters in Education from Canisius College in 1956. She also did graduate work in French at the University of Buffalo and was certified to teach both English and French. In 1957, she began a 30-year tenure, teaching first French, then English at West Seneca Senior High School. Eleonore retired from West Seneca West High School in 1988. A Breast Cancer Survivor, Eleonore remained active throughout her career and retirement, cultivating her interests in travel, the arts, gardening and charitable support. She traveled throughout Europe and the US, enjoyed attending monthly Fairchild Travel Talks and concerts at the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. She was a supporter of the Philharmonic,a member of several travel groups, and a supporter of the Polish Arts Club of Buffalo. She was a member of Corpus Christi Church in Buffalo, NY. Eleonore was the daughter of the late Michael and Anastasia (Nettie) (Kopczynski) Kolodziej and was predeceased by her infant sister Dorothy. Eleonore is survived by many cousins and friends. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at 10 AM, at Corpus Christi Church, 199 Clark St., Buffalo, NY. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Cheektowaga, NY, in the family gravesite. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eleonore's name to The Buffalo Philharmonic, Breast Cancer Research or Corpus Christi Church.
