February 5, 1946 - October 24, 2025 Beloved husband of Lucinda "Cindy" (nee Zacharyasz) Schaefer; loving father of Jill Marie Schaefer; cherished Pappy of Griffin, Cianan and Larkin Gardner; dear brother of the late James Schaefer, Rose Marie (late James) Leary and Daniel Schaefer; devoted uncle of many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call on Friday, October 31, 2025 from 3-7 PM at the CUSACK FUNERAL HOME, 873 Abbott Rd., South Buffalo, NY, 828-1846, (same location as Castiglia Funeral Home, Inc.), where a Prayer Service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 9:45 AM and a Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at Our Lady of Victory Basilica, 767 Ridge Rd., Lackawanna, NY, at 10:30 AM. David was a retiree of 27 years at Verizon and also from Lancaster High School as a Job Coach for Special Education students. He was a member of the Father Baker Knights of Columbus Council #2243. Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu of, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Roswell Hospital Foundation. Mr. Schaefer entered the U.S. Army on June 27, 1966, serving his nation for 24 months on active duty, trained as a Military Policeman (MOS-95B20). After his training, he was sent to the 60th Military Police Detachment in Bad Kreuznach, Germany for 18 months. Specialist 4 (E-4) David R. Schaefer was honorably discharged June 10, 1968 at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
