Obituary

MATURSKI - Cheryl Ann (nee Kaminski), at age 64, of Cheektowaga NY, formerly of Dunkirk NY, passed away showered in love and peace by her family, on Monday, March 13, 2023. Cheryl battled recurring cancer for decades, never allowing the illness to stop her from gardening, going out for dinner, traveling with her husband, or visiting her grandbabies. Never one to ask for help, she was always the one to help others wherever or whenever needed, without question or complaint. Her family meant the world to her and over the last two years, she loved showing everyone pictures of her grandbabies and adding monthly photos of them to her wall.

Born Oct. 11, 1958 in Dunkirk to Donald and Charlotte Kaminski, Cheryl graduated from Cardinal Mindszenty High School and went on to study at JCC. She worked for Cliffstar Corp for several years and then for Nestle Purina until her retirement in 2019. She was an active member in the church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, volunteering her time as a CYO advisor, and operating the food pantry at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. She was the proud mother of Jacob and Joshua Bode and loved being a mom and grandmother. When her boys were growing up, Cheryl could be found at the ice rink at the crack of dawn, running the Steelers Booster Club while her boys played hockey, or on the sidelines as a proud baseball, football and soccer mom. Cheryl was also involved in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life where her name appeared year after year as an honorary survivor and the team namesake of "Cheryl's Angels". Her involvement in her boys' lives and youth organizations meant she was known as "mom" to many others who now share in our grief. She is survived by her husband, Mark Maturski; her sons, Jacob Bode and Joshua (Sarah) Bode; and her beloved twin grandbabies, Parker and Emilia Bode; she is also survived by her brothers, Donald and Darrell (Heather McCourt) Kaminski; and sisters, Susan (Rich) Hughes and Tracie Lorenzo (Gerald Amyot); as well as her mother-in-law, Alice Maturski and sister-in-law, Joan (David) Rogers; she will also be missed by her nieces, Amber (Curtis) Zafuto and Crystal (Dulce) Suarenzo; and nephews, Ryan (Jamie) Kaminski, Kevin (Kersten) Kaminski, Nicholas (Kristina) Shelley, Michael Kaminski and Derek (Celena) Lorenzo; she was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Charlotte Kaminski. No prior visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at Holy Trinity in Church in Dunkirk, NY, on May 6, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. The family asks that attendees wear vibrant colors to celebrate Cheryl's life the way she lived it.
